Potential Statuses for Hold Requests

On This Page

Holds will show up on the patron's account in 1 of 6 potential statuses: Waiting for Item, WAiting for Capture, In Transit, Ready for Pickup, Hold Shelf Delay, or Suspended. The hold status is visible in both the OPAC and the staff client.

Common Statuses

There are usually four statuses a hold may have: Waiting for Copy, Waiting for Capture, In Transit and Ready for Pickup.

  • Waiting for item: all holdable copies are checked out or not available.
  • Waiting for capture: an available copy has been identified to the hold. The item shows up on the Holds Pull List for the library where the item is shelved. It will remain in this status while waiting for staff to search the shelf and capture the hold.
  • In Transit: The targeted item was captured at a non-pickup branch and is on the way to the pick-up location.
  • Ready for pickup: The targeted item is on the Hold Shelf waiting for patrons to pick up.

Less Common Statuses

The following statuses require either a specialized library setting, or manual action:

  • Hold Shelf Delay: Your library may have a setting that puts holds into a delayed state after capture. This delay gives staff time to finish processing and shelving holds before patrons are notified that the hold is ready for pickup. It a library has this setting applied, they may also choose the length of time before the hold converts to a status of Ready for Pickup.
  • Suspended: When a patron has suspended a hold, either at the point of placing it or at any point while waiting, the status shows as suspended.
