Cancelling Hold Requests

Active hold requests may be cancelled by staff, etiher from the Patron Account, or the Title Record. When cancelling a hold, apply a reason and, if necesarry, a note. Reasons include: Hold Shelf Expiration, Patron via Phone, Patron in person, Staff forced, and Patron via email. If using the Staff Forced cancel reason, include a note to explain why the hold was cancelled.


Active hold requests may be cancelled by staff, etiher from the Patron Account, or the Title Record. When cancelling a hold, apply a reason and, if necesarry, a note. Reasons include:
  • Hold Shelf Expiration
  • Patron via Phone (use if patron calls to request the cancellation)
  • Patron in person (use if patron requests the cancellation in person)
  • Staff forced 
  • Patron via email (use if patron emails to request the cancellation)

Note: If using the Staff Forced cancel reason, include a note to explain why the hold was cancelled. If the patron inquires, anyone who checks their account will be able to explain the situation.

Cancelling Holds from a Patrons Account

  1. Navigate to the patron's account and click into the Holds tab.
  2. Locate the hold to be cancelled from the grid and check the box to select it.
  3. Choose Cancel Hold from the Actions Menu.
  4. Select the cancel reason. 
  5. Click the Cancel Hold button.

Cancelling Holds from Title Record

  1. Navigate to the Title Record and click into the View Holds tab.
  2. Scope to your system or branch.
  3. Locate the hold to be cancelled from the grid and check the box to select it.
  4. Choose Cancel Hold from the Actions Menu.
  5. Select the cancel reason. 
  6. Click the Cancel Hold button.

Recently Cancelled Holds

You can view a patron's recently cancelled holds in the Recently Cancelled Holds tab of the holds interface in their account.

To uncancel a hold, select the title to be placed back on hold and choose "Uncancel Hold" from the Actions menu.

Based on your library’s setting, hold request time may be reset when a hold is un-cancelled.
